'Uncharted' Charts a Director

One of the best video games out there right now is Uncharted. Both the original game and its sequel are state of the art games that are exclusive to the PS3. Well now it seems that fans will get a chance to see Drake on the big screen, like so many other video game titles. Take a look below for the full rundown...

Columbia Pictures have been slowly moving forward on developing a feature film based on the widely popular video game created by Naughty Dog 'Uncharted.' Last week news broke that "I Heart Huckabees" and soon to release "The Fighter" director David O. Russell has signed on to direct, "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" for Columbia.

Russell since 2007 has wanted to direct a live-action version of Uncharted. So much so, he left "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" to work on 'Drake.' It is not clear whether Russell will be working from the previous script penned by Sahara scribes Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer or a new draft will be penned, but Avi Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are on board to produce for Columbia Pictures.

I'm real excited to see one of my favorite video games developed into a film, I just hope it doesn't fall to the same fate as other popular games once made into a film. Yes, I'm talking about Resident Evil, Max Payne, The Hitman and even Tomb Raider. Uncharted has the potential to fill the shoes of Indiana Jones with a real adventure. Uncharted could potentially be a huge franchise if handled correctly.

David O. Russell may not seem like first choice to tackle a property of this nature considering he's mainly worked previously in offbeat comedies, but Russell seems to be taking steps to show his growth and I for one am eager to see how this project turns out. Granted their are a few big factors, like who the hell will play Drake? The voice actor Nolan North, while never doing live action, may be real hard to replace. His voice is iconic with the game and while I can see plenty of other actors playing the role of Drake, I feel like North is the voice of Drake.

Stay tuned for more on this project as it is sure to develop...
