The Avengers film is coming in 2011 and has still to find its director, but it may have already found its villain. MTV News has heard from both Hulk director Louis Leterrier and Iron Man writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby that they think the green giant is perfect for the lead villain in the superhero team-up film.
Mark Fergus told MTV News, “I hope ‘The Avengers’ embraces that,” speaking of the Hulk. “You don’t want like 10 super-badass good guys fighting together. Where’s the fun in that? Let’s break it off a little. Friends or colleagues who become enemies is always an interesting thing because you know it’s based on love and friendship and that’s always the worst thing to have turn bad — is someone you actually care about and someone you actually believe in.” I couldn't sum it up any better. The Hulk embodies the perfect story arc for the Avengers to try and contain.
Remember that Stark does offer his help with Hulk to Thunderbolt Ross in the last scene of "The Incredible Hulk." Leterrier has reffered to that particular scene as the first scene in The Avengers. Leterrier told MTV News, “I would love to see [the Hulk become the villain that fights the Avengers] because I think the best villains are always the ones whose agenda you understand.” Leterrier continued by saying that he left the door open to interpretation in the final scene in the film. He told MTV News, “That’s why I left the door open for whoever’s going to direct ‘The Avengers’ with our last shot. Edward and I, we consciously decided to make the last shot of the movie when he opens his eyes and he smirks at the camera,” Leterrier said. “Is he enjoying it? Is he malicious? That’s what’s great about Edward. You don’t know if he’s a good guy or bad guy. He’s always on this edge and we’ve been sort of surfing that edge, that very thin edge during the entire movie.” Finally Leterrir added, "He [Bruce Banner] looks up and smirks and that’s eventually the Hulk of the Avengers — the uncontrollable beast that they need to team up to stop.”Hulk would be a perfect option for The Avengers film! What better than Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and Ant-Man taking on Hulk? I wonder with Hulk as a villain, would Marvel Studios add another hero to the lineup? Eva Longoria Parker was at Marvel studios not to long ago and rumors flew that she was being approached for the Wasp, but we need at least one more big hero on the team. We should be seeing more of Nick Fury, so that should kick ass! Perhaps Longoria was being persued for Black Widow and not Wasp, setting up for a sequel and her long effort to take down the Avengers. Sub-Mariner, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Black Panther or the Vision could all work as additions to the team. Sub-Mariner would be the best choice, especially with the prospect of having a spin-off for him as well.
What are your thoughts on Hulk being the villain in The Avengers movie? Should Marvel stick with original Avengers team or add some other Marvel stars to the lineup? Strikeback....
