Judd Apatow has been a box office goldmine with his slacker-esque comedies, but what would happen if he chose another genre? It seems we may not be that far off from finding out. CHUD, hot on the scene at Sundance had a moment to sit down with SNL cast member and Judd Apatow regular Bill Hader, who revealed that he and SNL writer Simon Rich have written a slasher film for Judd Apatow.
Say what? I am getting flashbacks of Kevin Smith saying he wants to do a horror film. Can this be true? What exactly did Hader and Rich put together with a slasher horror? He was nice enough to elaborate, "It's partially Straw Dogs meets Halloween meets Home Alone meets Monster Squad." Bill Hader is a riot on SNL and always pulls off flawless characters in each of Apatow's films and with these movie references, I cannot wait to see what comes of this project. It gets better...
Bill Hader described a bit about his plot for the slasher flick. "It is definitely about guys nowadays, that idea that you watch fucked up shit on TV, how violence in our culture - this sounds really hoity toity - you watch fucked up reality shows, I love true crime shows. The idea of that thing coming to your house, and what do you do? I would shit my pants. That's basically what the movie is about. What if that guy decided to come to your house? What would you and your dipshit friends do about it?" Can anyone think of a single reason why this film wouldn't rule? I can't! This idea sounds perfect for the Apatow crew.
So what is the likelyhood of the film actually coming to life? That's where Hader was pretty hazy. The SNL funnyman said, "I don't know if it's even going to get made." He continued, "Judd met with us and said "I want to do a horror movie with you. I want to see you in a slasher movie."" So the gears are turning, but who knows how quickly this film will move forward. Could this be Apatow's next project? His slate is clean according to imdb.com.
What say you? Does a slacker slasher comedy from Apatow sound like fun? Strikeback...
