Robert Downey Jr. while doing rounds for his upcoming release of "The Soloist" talked with both ET and MTV about "Iron Man 2" which starts shooting tomorrow. The extremely hot property told reporters that the superhero sequel will be about character of Iron Man. Does this mean we will get the famed "Demon in the Bottle" storyline from the comics? Downey Jr. also had a bit to say about the casting of Scarlett Johansson and how she is gearing up for the role of Black Widow. For all the details scroll down....
First and foremost Robert Downey Jr. tells MTV that the "Demon in the Bottle" storyline is best to be saved for a later film. "I think that’s probably best saved," said Downey, "because it’s such its own storyline." RDJ continued to fill in where the film will be heading instead. "We’re going for the interim space [between the origin and “Demon”]," explained Downey, "which is more a look behind the mask of someone who says he’s Iron Man and what it really is to become a superhero."
After having the success of Iron Man to jump right into the "Demon in the Bottle" storyline might be a little premature. Allow the audience to see Tony Stark/Iron Man fill out his character a little more, before having him become the battling alcoholic. It sounds as though "Iron Man 2" will be taking a page from the Spider-Man series, which it's sequel focused on what it meant to be behind the mask.
Robert Downey Jr. later told ET that just because the film will focus on the character on Iron Man don't expect it to be minus any action. In fact he assures there will be more this time around. "The film is almost entirely about character, and yet we still have twice as much action as we did last time, so it's going to be nuts," Downey exlaimed. Fans should be happy to hear that "Iron Man 2" will rev-up the action, I know I am.Lastly RDJ talked about the femme fatale casted in "Iron Man 2." The actor said that Scarlett Johansson is getting in shape to dawn the black leather outfit of the Black Widow. "We've been rehearsing and she's in insane shape. She's getting lean and mean," Downey said. I still am a little disturbed that Johansson is who Marvel and Favreau went with for Natasha, but hopefully they can limit Johansson's effect of over-powering scenes with her man voice.
"Iron Man 2" is scheduled for a May 7th, 2010 release. More to come on "Iron Man 2" as it develops....
What say you? Are you excited for the sequel to Iron Man? Should "Demon in the Bottle" be in Iron Man 2? Is RDJ just keeping us guessing? Strikeback...
