Back in February it was reported that Jackie Earle Haley was up for the role of Freddy Krueger in the update of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" by the folks over at Platinum Dunes. Now comes news that the reports were true and Haley as seemed to have passed the Rorschach test (couldn't pass up the bad pun) for the role.
The guys over at Bloody Distgusting broke the story friday and say the official report is due sometime next week. Haley is perfect for the role of Freddy and should fill Robert Englund's shoes or sweater quite nicely. The film will be a depature from the previous films which included Freddy cracking jokes left and right. The new vision being directed by Samuel Bayer will be darker and for the most part not feature any tongue and cheek humor. Shooting is set to begin at the end of the month in Chicago and is set for a April 16th, 2010 release date.
In other "A Nightmare on Elm Street" news, Kyle Gallner (The Haunting In Connecticut) is in final talks to play Quentin. Quentin is a podcast host that will be a spin-off the Johnny Depp character from the original film. While I haven't seen The Haunting In Connecticut, Gallner seems like a able choice to fill the role.
More news on "A Nightmare on Elm Street" reboot as it develops....
What say you? How perfect is Jackie Earle Haley for Freddy? Strikeback...
