The Twilight Saga's "New Moon" is currently filming and Daily Mail is reporting that director Chris Weitz has heavily pursued actor Michael Sheen for the role of Aro, the leader of the Italian Vampire clan the Volturi. The London news outlet in the past has reported some wild claims, so for now this report is still a rumor, but none the less Daily Mail reports Summit Entertainment will release an official announcement this week.
Director Chris Weitz told the news outlet why it was so important to land Sheen. “Michael’s role is so important because he’s the head of all vampires,” Weitz explained. “Aro is, on the surface, a very gracious and friendly vampire, but beneath that he is a tremendous threat.” Michael Sheen does feel like a perfect fit in the role of Aro and he surely is no stranger to vampires after having starred in the Underworld franchise as the leader of the Lycons. Daily Mail reports that Sheen will earn £5 million for the role of Aro.
"New Moon" is scheduled to release November 20th and stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Jackson Rathbone, Dakota Fanning, Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon, Tyson Houseman and Jamie Campbell-Bower.
