This week it was announced that Summit Entertainment is planning to make "Vlad". A project the studio had been sitting on for awhile. At first glance, the scoop seemed like just another vampire movie in the works. However after taking a closer look it seems that may not be the case. Read on for all the details...
"Vlad" was penned by Charlie Hunnam and will focus on the early years of Vlad III The Impaler. Summit Entertainment is currently in talks with video director Anthony Mandler to direct. Mandler presented some test footage to the studio that instantly attracted them to Mandler's take. Mandler has done a number of commercials and videos ranging from Jay-Z to the Spice Girls to The Killers. He would potentially oversee a brush-up of the Hunnman script. Summit are spinning the adaptation of the ruthless ruler more popularly known as Dracula from Bram Stoker's original tale as a "visually edgy and radical period movie."
What is not to be mistaken, is that "Vlad" does not appear to be a vampire related film, but in fact a gritty account of the actual Vlad the Impaler's notorious deeds. Instead of the character created by Bram Stoker. Which quite frankly, is a huge relief. The idea of seeing a quasi-realistic account of the atrocities Vlad would conduct is far more appealing than seeing someone else's spin on the mythos of Dracula.
Brad Pitt will produce under his Plan B banner alongside Summit Entertainment. Stay tuned for news on "Vlad" as it unfolds...
