PT Anderson's Latest Revealed

Usually with director Paul Thomas Anderson we have a long vacancy of silence in between his films, but this week, word has surfaced on his next project. The acclaimed director of There Will Be Blood, Punch Drunk Love, Magnolia and Boogie Nights will next focus on a period drama set in the 1950s America. Checkout the full report after the break...

P.T. Anderson is a master. He is one of my favorite workings directors along with Wes Anderson and the Coen brothers, so regardless of what his next film is focusing on, I am intrigued from the get go. PT Anderson's last effort There Will Be Blood, took a scrutinizing look at religion while his latest will focus on the need to believe in a higher power.

The film is titled "The Master" and follows a charismatic intellectual who hatches a faith-based organization that begins to catch on in America in 1952. Variety reports the core of the film will focus on the relationship between between the Master and Freddie, a twentysomething drifter who becomes the leader's lieutenant. As the faith begins to gain a fervent following, Freddie finds himself questioning the belief system he has embraced, and his mentor.

Also announced in the role of the Master, is Philip Seymour Hoffman. Hoffman, who has worked with PT a number of films as a supporting character, will finally take the lead in one of Anderson's films. Hoffman who recently played a priest in Doubt, will be a perfect fit for Anderson's look inside the psyche of a faith-based system that graduates into a religion.

As for now the project is being setup over at Universal with a $35 million dollar price tag. Universal has yet to green light the film and is currently waiting for a final draft of the script from Anderson. No actors were mentioned for the role of the drifter. Stay tuned for more news on "The Master" as it breaks...
