Spider-Man 4 Villain(s)?

The latest "Spider-Man 4" rumors are both terribly exciting and confusing. Today a intriguing scoop regarding the villain(s) in the latest Sam Raimi installment of our favorite web slinger surfaced confirming that rumors were true about Sony/Columbia circling Anne Hathaway for a role in the fourth film. She is not being offered the role every one expected from previous reports however. Checkout the full details after the break...

Previously, I had stayed away from reporting on any of the Black Cat/Felicia Hardy casting rumors regarding "Spider-Man 4". It seemed each day new names would pop-up with no validity, so I saw no reason to cater to the rumors. This latest scoop however, is just too engaging to pass up. Movie Line reports that Sam Raimi has created a new character/villain called the Vulturess. Her character is believed to be created in close relation to Black Cat and will still go by the name of Felicia Hardy. Anne Hathaway would of course play her, if things go Sony's way.

In creating the Vulturess, this means Sam Raimi will get to do in "Spider-Man 4" what he originally intended to do with Part 3. Yes, the Vulture will be the main villain. It also appears that John Malkovich is in talks with Sony to play the Vulture. Landing Malkovich in "Spider-Man 4" is a real nice move by Raimi and Sony. Malkovich who will be next seen in "Jonah Hex" as nemesis Quentin Turnbull, would make an excellent fit as the Vulture.

Avid Spider-Man fans may be weary with Sam Raimi taking liberties with Spidey's gallery of villains, but quite honestly we've all seen Cat Woman play out on screen before and there's no denying that Black Cat is just a rip-off of Cat Woman. There really is no foul in taking the working elements of Felicia Hardy and making them unique. We've seen it done in the comic books themselves, so why not allow Raimi to do the same thing on screen. I would also argue that making Felicia Hardy the Vulturess delivers a possible daughter or granddaughter story arc to the Vulture, which could be interesting. Consider me very intrigued and stay tuned for more details on "Spider-Man 4" as they develop...
