Singer Returns to X-Men

20th Century Fox has taken a lovely step in trying to regain faith from movie goers. It is common knowledge that hardcore movie fans or fanboys have been pretty upset with the way Fox has treated their top properties. The studio has tarnished a few Marvel comic properties, royally screwed up the Alien and Predator series. More recently Fox has mishandled the X-Men franchise since Bryan Singer left. This week it has been confirmed that Singer himself will return to direct the world of X-Men. Find out the full details after the break...


We've known for some time now that Fox intended to reboot the X-Men franchise by going back to the early years of the series. The studio decided to follow the X-Men: First Class run created by Jeff Parker and Roger Cruz in 2006. Their 8 issue series focused on the initial group of X-Men including Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Ice Man and Angel.

Back in November of 2008 Fox had hired Chuck creator Josh Schwartz to pen a draft. Now that Bryan Singer has been brought back to direct "X-Men: First Class" the director has decided to scrap Schwartz' script and start fresh. Singer claims being as close to the source material, he will be able to quickly put together a script. The studio has also hired to Jamie Moss to help Singer work out a script for 'First Class'.

Singer did describe some initial ideas he has. He explained, "This is the formative years of Xavier and Magneto, and the formation of the school and where there relationship took a wrong turn." Singer elaborated a bit more by saying, "There is a romantic element, and some of the mutants from 'X-Men' will figure into the plot, though I don't want to say which ones. There will be a lot of new mutants and a great villain."

Singer definitely knows how to tease with his "great villain" line. Not sure if Singer and Fox will agree to make an X-Men movie sans Wolverine, but I hope we could get a early look at the group before Logan made his presence felt. I can only imagine if Singer did include Wolverine in 'First Class' thus undoing everything he created in the first film and damning himself to fanboy persecution.
