Joe Johnston's current adaptation of Universal's 1941 classic horror film "Wolfman" has been pushed from its April release date! Fangoria reports, the film starring Benecio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt and Hugo Weaving will now release on November 6th, 2009.
Universal gave no reasoning behind the date change, but some have speculated that it may be due to rough post-production. Rick Baker had commented about the post-production at Comic-Con back in July. "That's the problem with the one thing with the transformation in this movie. Here, you've got Benicio Del Toro - who's practically a fuckin' Wolfman anyways - and Benicio Del Toro with a little bit of hair on him. We didn't have far to go. I said, To be honest, I don't know how we do this transformation. His nose and teeth only grow a little longer. We came up with some ideas, but I don't know what they'll end up doing. The showcase here [Wolfman] is the performance of the actors and the makeup." So for now, it is purely speculatory why Universal has made the move, but it will definately be sometime before we see Benecio howling at a full moon.
What are your thoughts on the date shift? Will the seven extra months make a difference for Johnston? Alot is riding on him with such a classic character. Strikeback....
