Judge Dread is Back!!

Official announcement came friday from 2000 AD Forums that Judge Dread will be recieving the reboot treatment. The original 1995 film, based on the comic of the same name, starred Sylvester Stallone but this time around Sly definately wont be serving the law. The studio is targeting a 2009 production start date.

Official announcement: "Rebellion and 2000 AD are proud to announce that Judge Dredd is coming to a cinema near you soon! Together with DNA Films, the movie production company behind such great sci-fi movies such as Sunshine and 28 Weeks Later, Judge Dredd will go into production in 2009. Jason Kingsley, CEO and Creative Director said, ‘We can’t give away too many details at this point, but we’re looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen.’ We’ll keep you up to date with breaking news as it happens!"

The original Judge Dread much like Demolition Man was a very typical campy action movie of the 90's and I truely hope that Rebellion and 2000 AD abandon that and will bring a darker take on the comic series. The original was also a box office blunder that upset both moviegoers and fans of the comic. Clearly, the announcement gives no hint towards where they are going with the reboot, but let's hope it can both grab the stunning artwork and look of the comics while bringing an violent and dark Judge Dread. More to come as news becomes available...

What say you do you want to see another Judge Dread film? What would it take for you to want to see it? Should Sly make a cameo at least? Or is distancing themselves from the original film a better idea? Strikeback....
