Chow Out as Kato Too?

Last week it was reported that director/creator of Kung Fu Hustle Stephen Chow was removing himself from his director duties on Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's penned The Green Hornet do to "creative differences" it now appears that the actor may jump ship on the project altogether.

The International Herald Tribune reports that Stephen Chow is considering departing the project due to scheduling difficulties. His scheduling difficulties arise from a superhero comedy that Chow wants to do with Jack Black. The actor said, "If I direct 'The Green Hornet,' the superhero comedy will have to be delayed for two years. The timing might not be right for a superhero comedy in two years. And I want to make a movie based on an original idea." Doesn't Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg scream comedy and isn't The Green Hornet some what of a superhero? I guess he's got me on the original part! Chow added that his choice to stay on for the role of Kato in The Green Hornet will rely soley on his schedule. It appears that Chow's publicity staff are working double-time trying to find ways to abort the project and Chow will no doubt be completely off the project.

It is really looking like those "creative differences" may be a much bigger wedge then first anticipated. Stephen Chow is particular with what he wants done and I am sure Goldberg and Rogen are the same. So, if Chow couldn't have creative liberty, why stick around for the role? Might as well just ditch the whole project and let Rogen and Columbia Pictures pick up the pieces. No doubt that Chow's contract stipulated that he directed or he could walk, leaving him an exit strategy.

I thought Chow and Rogen could have made a great duo, but apparently those two or whoever aren't playing so nicely and the result is Stephen Chow abandoning ship to co-star with Jack Black instead.
