Trailer: Let Me In

Remakes are a mixed bag of emotions to say the least. Sometimes, they feel ripe for the picking. Other times they feel completely wrong, but most of the time they feel like cash grabs. Let the Right One In is a Swedish vampire movie that is based off a novel of the same name. The original film is nearly a masterpiece and a film that most would say should not be remade (including the director). However Hammer Films and Overture have gone ahead and made an English language remake and re-titled in "Let Me In." The remake is directed by Cloverfield director Matt Reeves and stars Chloe Moretz, Richard Jenkins and Kodi Smit-McPhee. Take a look at the first trailer below...



Just based off the trailer, director Matt Reeves looks to have nailed the tone of the original book and look of the original film. Initially I was very skeptical of this film, but it looks to be on point. Just this week a test screening was done that I was unable to attend, but a few friends of mine were and they've told me that "Let Me In" is definitely a solid remake and worth the effort.

The question is how well will American audiences react to the film. It is understandable why the original wasn't released here in the States other than a very limited run. The film would just not sell, but if the remake is so close to original content, what makes the studio believe that "Let Me In" will be any different. The simple answer is English. This movie will not be subtitled. Majority of American audiences have issues with reading them and do not go out in big numbers to see foreign subtitled film. That is a sad fact, but its true.
