3 Circling 3 Marvel Projects

Yesterday and today word has broke on 3 different upcoming Marvel projects. The projects being "X-Men: First Class," "Captain America: The First Avenger" and "The Avengers." Each of these titles have tremendous excitement around them and these new developments only add to the excitement of production. Checkout the full breakdown after the jump...

I'll start with the scoop that is the furthest off. The Playlist is claiming that earlier rumors were true and The Hurt Locker actor Jeremy Renner will play Hawkeye in the upcoming 'Avengers' movie slated for 2012. Renner has been circling the project since early 2009 and turned down a few projects in order to squeeze the Marvel team-up flick into his busy schedule. Hawkeye will be the first Avenger to not have his own movie beforehand and quite frankly will most likely be a very small character in the grand scheme of the movie. My initial thought is we might even see Hawkeye and Black Widow develop a mini romance as they've done previously in the comics.

A side thought: If Marvel is willing to introduce Hawkeye without a major motion picture first, could we see the same treatment with Ant Man? I still think Nathan Fillion would be the perfect Hank or Henry Pym (whichever they're calling him this time) a.k.a. Ant Man. You listening Marvel and Edgar Wright? Nathan Fillion. Get. It. Done!

On to the next scoop. It seems that Marvel has found their Dum Dum Dugan. Actor Neal McDonough who is most reckgonizable from his character 1st Lt. Lynn 'Buck' Compton in HBO's Band of Brothers will play the member of Howling Commandos. Dum Dum Dugan is one of the elite members of S.H.I.E.L.D. and is a excellent marksman. McDonough seems like a strong fit without having to spend too much money, not to mention he's shown his military prowess before in a variety of roles.

The final Marvel casting scoop comes from the X-Men universe and 20th Century Fox. Director Matthew Vaughn clearly became very comfortable with his Kick-Ass lead Aaron Johnson, because the 20-something is rumored to be circling "X-Men: First Class." There is however, no confirmation on who exactly Johnson would play, but insiders are betting its Scott Summers a.k.a. Cyclops. I really liked Aaron Johnson in Kick-Ass, but I'm not so sure I like him as Scott Summers. I keep hearing that overtly squeaking voice trying to lead the X-Men and well, its just not working for me.
