Summit Wants A Witch Hunter

It appears that Summit Entertainment isn't quite set on just telling lovesick Vampire movies. The studio who has made bucket loads of cash off the The Twilight Saga has just picked up rights to "The Last Witch Hunter." The studio moved quickly on the property which is said to include an option for Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov to direct. Read the full details after the break...


Cory Goodman penned "The Last Witch Hunter" and pitched the property to Summit. The studio jumped with a "pre-emptive mid-six figures acquisition" of the fantasy action. Deadline Hollywood described the film: The protagonist is one of the last remaining witch hunters, a breed that keeps the population of witches and warlocks in check. They are about to repopulate in a major way unless he can stop them.

Timur Bekmambetov seems like a nice choice for a film in this genre. His Russian genre films Night Watch and Day Watch are decent examples of his abilities. I wasn't a big fan of Wanted at all, but the concept of 'Witch Hunter' alone is enough to keep my interests simmering.

"The Last Witch Hunter" is not the only Witch themed film in works. Paramount and Gary Sanchez Productions are currently moving forward on a Tommy Wirkola idea titled, "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters." The biggest notable difference between these to projects is tone. As I've previously reported Wirkola's film is said to be more of a Shaun of the Dead inspired film, while "The Last Witch Hunter" feels less tongue and cheek.
