Segel Leads Muppet Movie

We've known since early last year that Jason Segel and Disney were planning a return to The Muppets. Segel since January of 2009 has been working on various drafts of the next Muppet movie. Today an expected announcement came that Segel will also star in the film. Read the full details below...

Back in January, Segel told us that he was, "Several drafts in. And just waiting to see if it’s going to come together." Months later in September Disney announced at the D23 Expo that script was complete and production would move forward. Disney then said the movie was titled, "The Cheapiest Muppet Movie Ever Made," but we've also heard the film rumored to be titled, "The Best Muppet Movie Ever." The official report does not give us any clue to which title it is, however we do officially know who the lead and director are.

James Bobin who is co-creator of HBO's "Flight of the Conchords" will direct the script penned by Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller. Segel will of course star alongside the Muppets. This news does feel very expected, considering Segel has been talking it up for over a year now (essentially since Forgetting Sarah Marshall released).

What we don't know exactly is which script Disney and director James Bobin are working from. In September of 2009, we learned of two possible story lines, but unfortunately no confirmation has come on which it will be. Stay tuned as more develops on The Muppet front...
