Weinsteins Distributing Cogan's Trade

Last week I reported some casting reports about the soon to be filming crime drama "Cogan's Trade"with Brad Pitt in the title character and directed by The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford director Andrew Dominik. This week we've learned that the Weinstein Company has acquired U.S. distribution rights. Read the full report below...

A number of distributors tried to pick-up "Cogan's Trade" however the Weinstein's topped the other suitors. They purchased U.S. distributing rights for $20 million and plan to release the film in the first quarter of 2012. I am always weary when the Weinsteins get ahold of a property I'm excited for. I worry it will end up being dumped much like The Road was. A film TWC promised would grow into a wide release instead to end up being swept under a rug and having only a 396 theater release being its widest. The Weinstein Company stipulates again that they intend to have a wide release of 'Trade,' I just hope they follow suit.

"Cogan's Trade" begins filming February 28th with Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck and Sam Rockwell in lead roles. Rumor has it that James Gandolfini may join the heavy tension crime adaptation. Stay tuned for more as it breaks...
