I have been out of commission for a little over a week now and my return comes with serious excitement to report about. A couple weeks back now solid verification came that a feature length film would be made from the Grindhouse short "Hobo With A Shotgun." Rumors have swirled about a feature length film since the short appeared online a few years back, but the positive news is, its for real. Read the full report below including the original short, not to mention some concept art and a brand new clip of the upcoming film...
Let's start with the inception of the idea. Back when Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez had Grindhouse releasing they created a contest to make the best Grindhouse faux trailer. "Hobo With A Shotgun" won the contest and became so what of an online craze. At the very least the faux trailer generated a lot of buzz. Here's the original faux trailer for you to gander at now.
Okay, so if you hadn't previously enjoyed the legendary trailer, you now know what people were so excited about a few years ago. Fast forward to now and we have new news that director Jason Eisener is set to begin production on the feature length film a week ago! Not only has "Hobo With A Shotgun" already begun filming, the title character is none other than Rutger Hauer. If you are asking yourself who Rutger Hauer is, you clearly did not grow up in the 80's and you should check out imdb.
Not only do we have confirmation that "Hobo With A Shotgun" is shooting, we also have a brand new teaser clip to help build anticipation of the 2011 release. The footage is basically some behind the scenes type stuff, but includes our first look at Rutger Hauer in character and ready to blow some heads off! Take a look for yourself.
That's not all! There's more! There's already an official site up for the film where you can follow production. Director Jason Eisener opened the blog with a introduction and the plan is to keep us all up to date with lots and lots of behind the scenes posts. For fans of the short and this prospect of the feature length film, you should definitely stay tuned here and at www.hobowithashotgun.com
Finally here's some concept art that is inspired by a bounty hunter team named The Plague who are hired to take out the Hobo with a Shotgun.
