From his goofy stand-up to his powerful direction I've always been a fan of Bobcat Goldthwait. Earlier this year Bobcat began talking about his next project and today the first three stills from his latest feature film "God Bless America" along details of its world premiere have hit the net, take a look below for all the details...
"God Bless America" is Bobcat Goldthwait's directorial follow-up to his touching dark comedy "World's Greatest Dad" starring Robin Williams. Back in March we learned a bit about the concept from Goldthwait. The film follows a middle aged man watches a reality TV show something like MTV's My Super Sweet 16 and decides after viewing to up and kill that terribly high maintenance birthday girl. The killing doesn't end there, after a young girl discovers what he's done, the two set out around America killing people in a stolen Camaro. Since then Bobcat has gone to finish the film with Joel Murray in the lead role and it is now ready to screen it at the Toronto International Film Festival apart of the festival's Midnight Madness programming.
The TIFF website has also released a synopsis for "God Bless America": It’s a Bonnie and Clyde for the 21st Century as a 45 year old man and a teenage girl go on a killing spree in comedian Bobcat Goldthwait’s angry and bloody black comedy.
"God Bless America" will make its worldwide debut at TIFF. The festival runs September 8th-18th and while a specific date has not been clarified for Bobcat's film, passes for the film festival are currently on sale to the public on the TIFF website and single tickets will go on sale September 3rd.
Have to say, I'm really excited to see this film once it gets a limited release. Bocat Goldthwait's last film really hit me and this idea under the mind of Bobcat sounds amazing. Not to mention Joel Murray in the title role! Stay tuned for more news as it develops.
