Two days ago Universal released the first poster for "The Thing" and today they've released the first trailer. This is the prequel to John Carpenter's 1982 horror film and is sure to get some, "it looks like a remake" comments. Take a look for yourself below...
Overall this trailer does exactly what I expected to. It hooks "The Thing" fan in me. As I said above, I expect this trailer to get loads of comments revolving around how it looks like a remake and my reply is what did you expect? This is a prequel to the film that took place in Antarctica except with the team before the Americans find the Thing in the 1982 version. So we will have a lot of the same developments, scenery and locations. You are going to see a new team discover how deadly the Thing is. Of course things are going to look similar, aren't they suppose to? We're not in the Bahamas this time and the fact that you have a similar team will help audiences familiarize quickly. If you've seen the original, you know where the movie starts or where this prequel ends I should say. This is a movie that is just filling in grey areas that was already covered in the 1982 film and I am fine with that. You know the plot devices and how things will develop. Aside from people who love to complain at the obvious, I am excited for this prequel to release and see more of the Thing doing its best at spreading fear and adapting.
"The Thing" releases October 14th.
