Thoughts on Batman v Superman

For better or worse "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is out. People around the world have had a chance to see it and react to it. Critics have been very harsh on it while general audiences have given it more favorable scores. As you may have guessed reading this post I too felt like putting my opinion out into the fray. I don't write regularly like I did a few years back for many reasons, yet BvS has left me compelled to get my thoughts out on the film as well as the universe DC and Warner Brothers have built with two films now under the direction of Zack Snyder. Everything below includes massive spoilers, so if you haven't seen the film you may want to steer clear from this post. Thoughts on The Force Awakens

AFI FEST 2014: Top Priority

AFI FEST 2014 kicks off tonight with "A Most Violent Year" directed by J.C. Chandor. The free film festival runs November 6-13, 2014. The Opening Night Gala will serve as the first of 118 films programmed representing 39 countries in this year's festival including (6) Galas/Tributes, (8) Special Screenings, (8) American Independents, (10) New Auteurs, (29) World Cinema, (4) Midnight, (4) Breakthrough, (4) Cinema's Legacy and (45) Short Films. There are 29 films directed/co-directed by women, 16 documentaries, 17 animated films, and 9 official Foreign Language Film Oscar® submissions. Less Copycatting, More Innovating...

There's a lack of innovation going on at the movies. Not necessarily in the independent marketplace, but by major studios. 85% of what we see in multiplexes is borrowed, copied, or recycled. For the choosy movie goer you may have been lucky enough to not notice. Maybe you have noticed because you are choosy, and the wave of run-of-the-mill releases hasn't directly affected you, yet... For the rest of us who ride this general release wave of mediocrity year-in and year-out, we've noticed and quite frankly I'm starting to get upset.

Yesterday Zach Braff launched a Kickstarter campaign for a movie he's been developing with his brother titled "Wish I Was Here." Following the launch came a flash fire of backlash aimed at Braff for using the trending online crowd sourcing tool Kickstarter. 13 Anticipated in 2013

Each new year we have movies that we are aching to see. Films that we've talked about or tracked so much we may even know down to how many days till the particular film releases. A handful of years ago I pondered, why not jot them down and share, which is in a small way the genesis of this website.
