It seems the next beloved horror franchise is now set to be remade. The guys that have brought us
Texas Chainsaw Massacre,
Amityville Horror and releasing in February
Friday the 13th will next take a trip to Elm Street. That's right, the long anticipated and talked of remake is actually happening! Platinum Dunes will be moving forward with its working relationship with Warner Brothers and New Line for "A Nightmare on Elm Street." Shock Till You Drop dropped the news today when Brad Fuller and Andrew Form broke the story to the news outlet saying,
"It's our next movie." Fuller and Form have been hinting about remaking the Nightmare franchise for awhile and were heavily touting the pursual at Comic-Con back in July. So the deal is done for a re-imaging of Freddy and his nightmare haunting, but how quickly are Form and Fuller planning on shooting? Andrew Form noted they would like to start real soon by adding,
"hopefully shooting this spring."Platinum Dunes did a real good job with
Texas Chainsaw Massacre and
The Hitcher,
not so much
TCM: The Beginning or
Amityville Horror, but they have the right ideas for the franchises. They look to have nailed
Friday the 13th, but we will have to wait and see in February for that. Just how are the minds behind Platinum Dunes going to approach Freddy, one of the most comical maniacs out there? Form and Fuller tell
Shock Till You Drop that they are losing the wise-cracking angle to Freddy.
"It's not Freddy cracking jokes. We want to make a horrifying movie," Fuller said. Personally, that is the best thing I could hear! I always loved Freddy's jokes in all of the films, but it always took away from the horror. With the original films, you went to see them to laugh, not to be scared. I love the idea that Fuller and Form want to make a terrorfying Nightmare on Elm St. Continuing on Fuller said,
"The concept is so scary, don't fall asleep or you'll die. This guy gets you when you're most vulnerable, in your sleep. We love that. 
That's the basis of the movie." This guy really does say all the right things. Instead of playing up Freddy's one-liners and stand-up, we remember so well from Robert Englund, we'll get an actual nightmare! Thank god!
Fuller and Form continued to elaborate on their ideas for the film by saying,
"It'll be most similar to the first one but in terms of kills and dreams we'll borrow from the entire series." Clearly then a High School story similar to the original is what were in for, which would work the best, especially with the "Parents just don't understand" angle played up. The duo added to further show they intend on a realistic and non-campy take on the original series,
"It's like what we're doing to Friday the 13th." Based off the fact that Fuller and Form have said their "Nightmare" will be sans the jokes, it is doubtful Robert Englund would return to the title role. In fact, the creators behind the
Friday the 13th remake said they would be going with a new actor for the film, but hope that Englund can be in the film in some form or other character.
A real haunting take on A Nightmare on Elm Street sound like a good idea? Are the guys at Platinum Dunes the best people to do it?
